Conway Twitty “Working Girl” Live on TV 1967 (by KoolKlipsFromDeke)
So you don’t think Conway Twitty was a badass? Check out this clip from early in Conway’s country career, around 1967, from the PW show. This band cooks! John Hughey’s super funky pedal steel licks, the tight as hell rhythm section (check out the drummer’s wild stick moves in the solo!), and Conway in his prime—super confident, singing great, cool greasy hair (pre-perm wave), black suit, black telecaster. BAD ASS! I’m not sure if PW interrupts Conway because the song is too long or because they freaked out on the song about a “working girl.” (back in those days, that meant a prostitute, which is a pretty heavy thing to be singing about on a family show like PW’s)…. R.I.P. Conway!
